Having opened her own dance school in Liverpool, aged 17 a few years later Anne decided to try and make leotards for her students herself, other dance teachers soon started buying leotards from her and in 1978, when the dancewear manufacturing and sales needed to become a separate business, Harlequin Dancewear was born.

Fast forward to present day and IDS is now the UK's largest wholesale dancewear supplier with a customer base including over 14,000 dance teachers and retailers worldwide with whom IDS has gained an incredible reputation for great products and service, as well as winning multiple business awards both here and in America.

In 2010, in recognition of her contribution to business, Anne was awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire), and a year later launched the first ever International Dance Teacher Conference at The Royal Ballet School in Covent Garden, this now must-attend event for dance teachers from all over the world is attracting some of the biggest names in dance to be part of the faculty.
