Local tap dancers are in for a real treat this April with four of the UK’s hottest tap dancers coming to Liverpool.
Tap Attack, which is an amalgam of the UK’s hottest tap dancers and choreographers, is kicking of their spring 2008 events at the Merseyside Dance & Drama Centre http://www.tapattack.co.uk/tap_attack_liverpool_april_2008_booking_form.asp , on Sunday April 20.
Formed in 2006 by Jo Scanlan and Dean Magri with a vision of providing tap dancers opportunities to experience different styles and have exposure to current trends. Travelling to different towns and cities so far to date Tap Attack have taught classes too more than 350 people. Tap Attack workshops are inclusive to all ages although guidelines are set for 10 years and over. On the day dancers are able to participate in up to 4 workshops (1 with each teacher), a unique way to gain experience in different styles.
Amongst the teachers in Liverpool is versatile actor and dancer Junior Laniyan http://www.tapattack.co.uk/tap_dance_workshops_2008_uk_teaching_faculty_junior_laniyan.asp , who has performed in world-wide smash hit Riverdance, as well as teaching regularly at London’s prestigious Pineapple studios, and has appeared on television tapping to "Mr Bojangles" with Robbie Williams in his Swing concert from the Albert Hall.
Tappers will get the opportunity to take a master class with Junior, and all three of the other teachers, including stars from Dean Perry’s hit westend shows, Dean Magri http://www.tapattack.co.uk/tap_dance_workshops_2008_uk_teaching_faculty_dean_magri.asp "The Hot Shoe Shuffle" and James Doubtfire http://www.tapattack.co.uk/tap_dance_workshops_2008_uk_teaching_faculty_james_doubtfire.asp "Tap Dogs".
Tap Attack is the brain child of local tap choreographer, Jo Scanlan http://www.tapattack.co.uk/tap_dance_workshops_2008_uk_teaching_faculty_jo_scanlan.asp , who has been teaching at the major vocational college around the UK for the past 7 years, having trained in America with tap dancing legends including Henry Le Tang, Heather Cornell and the Manhattan Tap Company.
The day is designed for all tap dancers over the age of 10; they are then split into different groups. "All abilities are covered from the advanced beginner to the most advanced dancer. This is the chance for everyone to tap the day away regardless of age or standard and to share a love of tap," said Jo.
